Fall sports had many exciting ups and downs that made it a season to remember. Although, the winter season has equal potential for success with a lineup of star-studded teams competing for a state championship.
First off, there is boys and girls basketball. Boys basketball had a subpar season last year after being moved up to Division I, finishing with 4 wins. However, the Avengers look to flip the script for this upcoming season and show why they were moved up. The girls basketball team is looking for a similar turnaround. They ended up with 5 wins after a hard-fought season and are hoping to become one of the better teams in the state.
The boys and girls indoor track teams are also looking forward to their upcoming season. They had a very successful season last year and want to build upon that success. They are led by their large number of seniors across all events, which will be a big advantage for the team this winter.
The wrestling team is another team that has high hopes for the upcoming season. Despite the loss of some key seniors, they are looking to thrive as an underdog. The same can be said for the boys hockey team, who lost a large number of upper-classmen in the past year. However, the team looks to replicate the success they achieved last season and make it back to the state championship.
Finally, the swimming team has aspirations for a strong season. They were competitive last season as the boys team made it to the state finals for the first time in school history. They look to repeat last year’s accomplishments and add to their legacy.
There is a lot to look forward to in this upcoming winter sports season. With all teams eager to win, the Avengers will be looking to add a couple more plaques to the EGHS name.
