Poetry: I’m Sorry

By Lily Shaughnessy

I’m sorry I can’t erase the guilt

Or take the blame

I feel your world tilt

And I feel the burning of the flame

I’m sorry I can’t apologize for them

Or change their minds

I feel all the rips in the hem

And see how the anger binds

I’m sorry I can’t fix their actions

Or influence the past

I already see the forming factions

I can only hope they don’t last

I’m sorry my blood boils

And I feel the shame

And the serpent that coils

Until I beat it tame

I’m sorry I don’t have the key

To life’s lock

But I hope you can see

You could always knock
