With just a few weeks left in the regular season, the East Greenwich Avengers started the week off with a win against Moses Brown. The game began with a quick steal by East Greenwich #14, Andrew Plympton and a layup by #2, Jack McMullen who led the offense in scoring with a total of 25 points. At the 12:40, Moses Brown’s #14, Matthew Jumes put the Quakers on the board with a score of 6-2. EG continued to hustle and put up shots, extending the lead by 6 with a score of 17-11. After 2 minutes, Moses Brown remained scoreless but EG continued to play hard, racking up 5 more points to sustain the lead. With 50 seconds left in the half, EG’s #4, Aydin Kocak caught a pass from the other side of the court with one hand, ending it with a layup and extending the lead. By halftime, the score stood at 29-18, East Greenwich.
Contrary to the aggressive play from the start of the game, both teams began the second half scoreless. After 3 minutes of strong defense form both sides, #11, James Murphy for the Quakers broke the ice with a 3 pointer, cutting EG’s lead to 8 points and then hitting another 3 to cut it to 5. Although EG never ceded the lead, the Avengers called a quick timeout to slow down the intensity of the game and came back strong with 8 consecutive points. McMullen continued his streak and made his third 3 pointer of the night, extending the lead to 16 points giving the Avengers the upperhand. With an attempted shot by Moses Brown to hang on to the game, Aydin Kocak came out and blocked it to keep EG’s 17 point lead. For the final minutes of the game, EG maintained a strong defense and kept the score low and the momentum high, leading the Avengers to go on and defeat Moses Brown, 52-34.
