This past Wednesday night, 10/4/17, the girls volleyball team took out Westerly, keeping their undefeated name. The Avengers conquered Westerly at EG’s own high school earlier in the season and was determined to do so again on the Bulldogs’ home court. Led by head coach Justin Amaral, EG beat Westerly in a 3-0 sweep (25-7, 25-23, 25-13). EG came out strong, not letting the Bulldogs build much momentum at all in the first set. The second set was more of a thriller, as the Avengers had to work hard to not let their guard down, only squeaking out a win by two points. Setter Lucy Schwab had an ace for game point. The final set displayed EG’s true colors as they put their foot back down for a twelve point win. The gym that night was overflowing with noise as the Avengers managed to keep their energy up. With a strong offense from juniors Viviann Goulet and Hope Votta, along with senior Brianna Rowey, the girls have a knack for burying the ball in the other side of the court. With sophomore Sophie Johnson on defense, the team has continued to work on passing to neutralize the ball. Serve receive is a big part of their game. The team will have two home games this week of the ninth, facing Narragansett on Wednesday (10/11/17) and Portsmouth, who’s also undefeated, on Friday (10/13/17) at 6:00 pm. Come make some noise!
